20km north of Pau, meet the owners of Viven Château, a building which is listed on the Additional Inventory of Historic Monuments. Explore the French-style garden which they promoted and redesigned around ancestral boxwoods in 1988 and where, each year, they pursue new creations and plantations.
On a terrace, enclosed by pebble walls, the gardens blend in beautifully with the estate. They match, linked by the rose gardens at the front, at the foot of the kitchen garden walls, around the pond and rows of lime trees. Rhododendrons, azaleas, bougainvilleas, bamboos, mandarin trees, wisteria are planted along the path, dotted with arbours, a little bridge and a maze.
